Cravath has a reputation for having a pretty light SA load.

I'm a 1L summer at a V50 firm. the associates are worked to death; I know that's mostly everywhere, and I don't know how long I'll be a biglaw lawyer for (1-2 yrs probably). But to help pay off debt I want to do a second summer and not have to kill myself.

I will go far, just not as an attorney. I'm ok with this

also, the whole point of me saying to just "name names" and nothing else is to have people like you stop the normative bullshit before it even begins. i'm asking for info, not advice.

Fuck it dude knows he doesn't want to practice biglaw for long might as well go somewhere fun for a summer. Proskauer seems pretty cool my friends there and she got to go to the nba draft. Don't know if ur into sports, but if you are they seem like a good time for a summer.

Heller Ehrman, Howrey, and Dewey & LeBoeuf would be good choices.

A good lawyer works hard, but a great lawyer works as hard as necessary for the task at hand.

A lot of law students and lawyers never get the memo that there are no prizes awarded for continuous, pointless, break-neck levels of effort. See, e.g., all law reviews everywhere, people who still try 2L and 3L year, etc.

OP: Larger programs are probably better. Easier to hide in a huge program than as one of just a few summers. Also maybe target firms that have big retreats and things, where there's obviously already a culture that assumes you'll be spending a lot of time not-working during the summer.

This is really good advice. Honestly, even if you DO want to work hard, being in a summer program where there is only a few people isn't a good look. If you make an error, can't go to some event, end up being a little behind on an assignment or whatever, it's going to be noticed A LOT more and the firm is probably less likely to have the ideology of just giving out offers as a matter of course.
