Etiquette for Asking for Informational Interview?

If the employer is coming to OCI, and I happen to be in the city this summer, is it OK to email the recruiter at that city's office and basically say:

"I am very interested in working as a summer associate at your firm next summer. I know recruitment begins in August, but would it be possible for me to visit your office and speak to one of your attorneys to find out more about the firm while I am in the city?"

Have people had positive responses from asking for informational interviews? Do they help at all during OCI (assuming you bring up who you spoke to, what you found out, etc.)?

Thanks.

Find an attorney who is an alum of your law school or UG and ask if they have time to speak with you, either on the phone or over coffee.

Don't expect miracles. The most helpful part will be figuring out things NALP and the website won't tell you.
