I have a few lunches with partners at different firms where im doing my internship this summer...pretty informal alums of my schools who work at firms i would love to work for so I asked if they would have lunch with me
do i offer to pay since i invited them. Do they pay? or is it pretty standard just to pay for yourself?

Servers will hand the bill to who appears to be the more senior person at the table (the partner) and when the partner pays, you say "thank you."

I would offer to pay, since it was your invite, but it's a virtual guarantee that they will pay.

The partners at my firm would laugh at anyone who did this. "Oh you silly plebe. Please don't even expose your sad little credit card to the elements—it's not platinum!"

Platinum card inflation has destroyed whatever prestige there was in it to begin with
Thankfully, any man of quality can display his financial dominance through Singularity Black credit cards.

Yeah, this. And yeah, some partners will probably laugh inside. Or at you. They know they're making infinitely more than you are and that you're either a billion dollars in debt or about to be. But it's still good form to do as described above and I'm sure at least some of them will appreciate it in the sense that "Yeah, I know I was going to pay for your lunch anyway, but that was cool that you didn't come here looking like you expected a free lunch out of me."

I always offer once. Then let them pay. If you "insist" they will take it as an insult. It makes them feel disrespected to have some poor college student pay for their own meal.

If you're a guy, all you really have to do is reach for your wallet when the check comes. The partner will tell you to calm the fuck down, he/she will pay for it, and then he/she will bill it to the firm. All will be well.

Just bring it up before the check comes in a sly way, like acknowledging how both of ya'll are getting treated by the firm

Yeah, that's what I've done. When they see you reaching into your back pocket, they're always like "LOL I got this."
