Current SA at a big NYC firm, interested in going back to a secondary / tertiary market. Struck out in those markets at OCI.

Any thoughts / success stories on trading down at 3L OCI (or more likely mass mailing)? Would it be better / easier to try to go now or wait a few years years and lateral?

Work on getting an offer where you are at. In the fall reach out to the firms you are actually interested in working at and hope got the best. If it doesn't work, angle to get yourself into practice groups that would make you an attractive candidate 2-4 years down the line. This isn't an either or situation. There are multiple paths to get where you want to go. You might consider alumni phone informational interviews in the next few weeks. Don't tell them you struck out in their market during OCI (unless you need to), but let them know that while
the work at X firm is very interesting, you really want to work in Z location and you would like to know their thoughts about how to get there in either the short or long term.
