I'd be cautious that none of that shit on your desk is privileged. Its easily readable.

Nice... My friend did that last year (diff state) and he was astonished by the horrific things he had to read... And I am not referring to the content of what he read but rather the horrific grammar and general lack of coherence that many attorney's displayed.
How ironic...

Started my 1L SA this week. Never felt so useless in my life.

I selectively quoted one of the attorney's briefs in my memo just so that I could say [sic] after all of their awful mistakes.

On the flip side, criminal defense work is the lowest risk.

The hell it is. Sure you don't get sued as often, but criminals will throw your face in the mud the first time their jailhouse lawyer buddy tells them you should have struck that white juror because he was black, even though there were six other white jurors. Or didn't object to some arcane point of law that no one in the trial even knew existed. Not to mention what they want to do when they get OUT of jail... :?

Oh, and you'll get subpoena'd two years later and get to explain to a judge why you sucked, or at least why he and his new lawyer think you sucked in a post conviction hearing.

If you want a low-risk job, go be a law librarian.

Start first week of June. Kind of excited for it to start. But then again, I doubt I'll be doing anything of import as a lowly 1L summer intern.

For those of us doing gov't work, let's start a betting pool on how many days we'll work before our passwords/logins do.
Not doing gov't work anymore, but goddamn I know that feel. How long did the background take? Months, right?

Except for your client. And his homies. But that's okay, I'm sure that they'll understand if you just tell them nicely that you messed up when they get out of jail.

Job is nice and relaxing. "Working" for a state judge. Have a memo to write for him this week, but otherwise he just wants me to go see trials of various sorts. Had professional experience prior to law school so this "go watch" stuff is very nice.

Shit, clients tend to be stoked if you can reverse due to IAC

All that "you're in danger" shit is way overblown

There are many reasons not to want to be a criminal defense atty or to prefer prosecution but this is not one of them

Some good reasons: clients tend to be uneducated, difficult to work with, have no idea what you can reasonably accomplish, and have no $
Yeah fair enough, but there is still an element of danger. Don't dismiss the fact that criminals are crazy.
Case in point: --LinkRemoved--

Obviously the attorney was lucky.

Edit: Quoting was horrible.
