0L Questioning Whether to Publish Controversial Book

I will be going to Indian University-Bloomington next year and want to work at a Big Law firm. I wrote a controversial book that deals with religion, gay marriage and the LGBT community. The book has a really good, inclusive message, but it is a touchy subject. I was going to self publish it this summer. I am now questioning how a firm will judge it. I have also worked at many liberal/progressive orgs, including President Obama's reelection campaign.

I will be looking to work regionally in Chicago, Missouri, Indiana, or Kansas City. Should I wait to publish the book until after I have secured a position? Will firms look at it negatively?

If I were at a firm, I'd look negatively at self-publishing anything. But that might just be me.
