Is working at the FTC a prestigious summer job?

There is an opportunity that has come up at my school, and it's not something I've thought of before. Sounds like it might be a good opportunity. By the way, I'm a 1L.

I'd say it is. But why does the prestige matter? I assume you don't have a job yet if you are considering the FTC job, so just take it. You're a 1L, so most jobs are on equal footing prestige-wise, anyway.

No 1L job is prestigious, really, and if you are still unemployed at this point you should take whatever you possibly can to avoid spending 1L without a legal position at all.

LOL. this job is NOT prestigious. it's right on par with deli-meat slicer at Arby's and the janitor at Starbucks.

LOL at thinking 1L internships are prestigious. are they paying you? there's your answer.

The 2L paid FTC summer jobs in the Bureau of Competition are some of the best in government and have a high chance of post graduate employment at the FTC. The 1L unpaid positions are very good as far as government internships go in terms of the experience you'll get, and may set you apart a bit if you are interested in antitrust (hence maybe slightly prestigious). If this is in the Bureau of Consumer Protection or interning for a commissioner, I'd say it's just a run of the mill unpaid government internship that won't hurt or help when it comes to 2L employment.

It will probably look good if you want to practice antitrust. Otherwise, no one will care. Employers basically don't care about what you did your 1L summer as long as it's legal.
