So I know many firms reimburse relocation expenses for its SAs.
Do you guys plan on asking for the reimbursement?
I kind of feel bad doing it... (and also worried about leaving an impression that I charge everything to the firm or something).
Thought?

I recommend that you avoid asking as an SA.

Why do you have to ship things for a summer? What do you need that can't fit in an extra suitcase?

+1 - I think this is where it will end. When you are only living someplace for 10 weeks they expect you to get furnished housing which doesn't require relocating substantial amounts of personal possessions.
Lots of firms pay for relocation expenses when you actually move to start as a full time associate.

As far as I know, most firms don't pay for moving expenses for SAs--just plane tickets at most. If your firm hasn't said anything, I wouldn't ask. It would look ridiculous. Your firm is already paying you $3k/week to be wined and dined all day; surely you can afford to move your furniture (or better yet, leave it behind and rent a furnished apartment).

Why should a firm be responsible for shipping your shit? If you need that shit, it should be on you. Or rent a furnished apartment like many of us will be doing. If you actually ask your firm to pay for anything other than travel expenses (air plane or gas), I think you'll get a giant WTF look from them.

Yep. Most firms that pay for relocation only do it for incoming attorneys. The firm I will be at has a generous relocation expense package + bar expense package that should have me set as long as I get an offer there after this summer.

My V15 firm will cover transportation costs to/from New York, but I think that means a plane ticket and not a UHaul truck.

If a UHaul truck is
actually cheaper, I see no reason to not ask for that. I doubt the firm would give a crap. Pay for it and then ask for reimbursement (like I will be doing when I am reimbursed for travel expenses to my firm this summer).

My SA firm pays up to $500 worth of moving costs (told us in an email).
