Is your friend going anywhere? Can you just get started at your firm, and then see how it's going and perhaps try to move to the boutique next year if you still want to? That's what I would do, deal with finishing up school and all the bar B.S. knowing I was all set to start at the big firm. Seems unwise to bother at this point.
