Top Law Schools

To those of you who summered or worked in foreign offices of firms/at international law firms abroad, are all the US lawyers working in those offices New York qualified? Would passing the NY bar be required if a lawyer wanted to lateral to a foreign office of such firms?

you must be qualified in NY or CA at least (occasionally you see lawyers who passed other state bar exams but that is rare). The reason is that you will most likely be practicing US law in one of these foreign offices such as London or Hong Kong. If you haven't even passed bar in the US, you can't practice US law anywhere.

Now if you want to do UK law or HK law or whatever, you don't necessarily have to have US qualification but you will have to pass local bar. That is very hard if you don't have a local law degree.

I will be taking the bar in another state and wanted to know if it is worth taking NY as well in the event that I want to lateral to a foreign office.
