I've worked with Federal OIG's, but mostly from a Law Enforcement perspective, however I have spoken to some of their legal interns. Any specific questions?

My TA for 1L legal writing worked there throughout law school and loved it. Not sure if that helps, though. FWIW I don't think they offered him a job when he graduated.

Will it hurt/help my chances at biglaw, or wont affect them at all? Is this considered a "prestigious" internship, will it help me with future jobs (I am a 1L). Is the work they assign typically very "legal" ?

I doubt it will make any difference. It's kind of in that vast swath of PI jobs that don't help or hurt; you should get some good stories though. My TA used to tell us about the stuff he had to deal with all the time. It's definitely a legal position, though you'll be doing a lot of investigations/fact-finding about misconduct and fraud. You'll just get to know those laws well.

EDIT: Read the decisions here (http://www2.illinois.gov/oeig/Pages/default.aspx) to get a sense of what you'll be doing. I assume it's similar for most states, even the ones that are not as insanely corrupt as Illinois.
