Classes/Clinic for 2L Summer

2L at t-14. Struck out of OCI. Unless I get a summer job with a potential for future employment, or a paid job, I am considering taking summer courses and doing a clinic for the summer. Is that a horrible idea?
Benefits which I think I will gain:
a) Substance; I think I will learn more in classes, clinic, than in externing for some judge or some fed. organization.
b) Grades; it will not boost my GPA for Fall OCI, but it will boost it for the mass mailing, random job postings posted later.
c) I am thinking of taking a ton of tax classes/business classes during the summer, so maybe I can have a shot at accounting/consulting firms.
d) Well-being; I think spending time in clinic or class would feel more useful than doing some project for someone who is not paying me or plans on hiring me.
Negatives:
a) the obvious one. No summer job... does it look lazy, does it look like no one wanted to hire me, who knows. I would like more opinions. My experience from 1L summer was that people that did school work, whether a clinic or helping a professor, did not suffer in fall recruiting.
