Do you guys greet your interviewers by first or last name? What about the recruiting/hiring manager when you meet them. It seems professional if you great them by last name but it also doesn't have that friendly atmosphere.

What do you guys think?

Unless and until told otherwise last name

i don't know the answer, but i know that if you get it wrong you are completely screwed.

When I interviewed, I always used first names. To me, it's much less awkward and makes it easier to connect. Also, that's what I would prefer to hear if I were the interviewer.

As someone else said, go in assuming last name until told otherwise. That said, in almost every interview I've had, things started off with the interviewer introducing him or herself by first name. From there on you're good.

I think this is standard for any professional situation.

If they're relatively young, and they say their first name when introducing you, I would say first name.

If they're older, I would go Mr. Last name until he corrects you otherwise.

I never understood these questions. Why dont you just avoid the whole thing and say, "Good morning, how are you doing today?" and then "I wanted to thank you again for taking the time to meet with me." Why do you NEED to tack a name at the end? That always seems forced to me. Most people dont do that in real life.

Also, even if they have a common last name, if you mispronounce it and they have to correct you, it's an awkward way to start off the interview.

1. Use first name from the start.
2. Do not avoid calling your interviewer by their name.
