On a small firm's website, it only says "send resume to managing partner, here." Should I send a cover letter with? or include something similar in the email?

Anybody?

I dont know if its right or not but I have been sending cover letter and resume as a pdf attachment and writing another brief basically short version cover letter in the body of the email even when they only ask for resume. I have gotten some bites from it...worst that can happen is they dont read the cover letter.

Okay, better safe than sorry. Quick question: is there a more cordial way of starting emails? I feel like "Hello," isn't elegant, professional, nor inviting.

I am currently a 1L and would love it if you paid me to hang out at your firm this summer blah blah blah....

Truth is none of them care they just want to see that you can string sentences together I was told to think of it as another shot at a writing sample

Start them the way you'd start a business letter, addressed to a specific person:

Dear Ms./Mr. Smith:

Since you're sending it to the managing partner, presumably you know their name.

And our career office says to send the cover letter as the email body, with resume attached as a PDF.

I mean, it only asked for a resume. If anything, I'm guilty of following the instructions.
