Does this seriously happen?

I was just wondering what the standards are for hiring of new associates at firms that pay over $160k starting, and if they've just gone downhill.
A girl I am graduating with this year received an offer this month to start work in the Dallas office of an elite litigation firm that starts their associates at $165k after we graduate. Maybe it's part bitterness, and part confusion, but this girl is dumb as bricks, like bottom 10% kind of dumb (at least, our 1L year), has no work ethic, is a really terrible person, and is a compulsive liar (she's told interviewers lies that I would consider unethical as excuses for her low grades). What she has going for her, though, is that she's a fantastic interviewer, very great at BSing, good at lying, and is Hispanic, so a double minority, as she's female as well.
I am just so confused. Will an elite firm take someone's word about their really terrible grades and hire just because they are amazing at interviewing and have some really sad (but untrue) excuse as to why their grades are bad? Is being a good BS-er all it takes? A good interviewer? How does someone that dumb even GET an interview - serious hustle? How does someone hustle THAT good? I'm honestly a little bit jealous of her hustling skills.
Yes, this is pure schadenfreude. I just hope that someone out there gets this feeling that I have right now and has any clue what's going on.

I had to play the minority card there.

Look, at a time when people with actual intelligence and work ethic have trouble getting jobs, how the f* did she land this?

Maybe she has connections you don't because although you're white, you're a proletarian.

Does no one else get mad when they perceive something as unfair?

Not when you're starting at $165k and I'm unemployed.

Yea, misused that word.
I'm not starting at 165k, I'm starting at 140k. That's why I'm bitter.

LOLWUT.
Just to entertain your post seriously for just a moment - just because you hold that opinion of this person doesn't mean she hasn't been able to convince interviewers otherwise. Once she actually starts working, either the truth of your opinion will come out and she won't last, or she may actually live up to what she convinced the interviewers she could be. Unless you were in the room during the interview and have seen every piece of actual work she's ever done, it's not clear how you got to be an expert on how she got/doesn't deserve this job.

At first I read this as "I'm so happy you're black."

On a more serious note, the fun police have arrived:
1. No race baiting. I might lock this bullshit just for the OP, but I haven't decided.
2. 0Ls, gtfo unless you have something very pertinent to say.
3. Failure to follow these rules will result in extended vacations.

Love. And OP, are you seriously bitching because your BigLaw job doesn't pay as much as hers? Grow the fuck up and worry about yourself. If everything you've said is true (and by the way it is weird you know that much about someone you seem to hate) it will eventually catch up with her, if not oh well. Really, you seem like a total douche.

If it's Bickel & Brewer (though, I thought they started at 170K or 175K), then a person could argue that she's the one who's losing out on this whole thing.

OP, stop bitching about others and focus on yourself. Law school is going to be rough if you keep up with the whiny perspective.
