1L SA or in-house?

Hey all, I would like to get some opinions about what I should do for my 1L summer. I'm thinking about either a paid in-house internship at a Fortune 500 or a 1L SA position (mid-size firm in a secondary market). The 1L SA pays more than the in-house internship. Would an 1L SA or an in-house internship would be better for someone who is leaning towards corporate? Or it doesn't matter and follow the money?

Follow the money.

Out of curiosity, how much are 1L SAs paid? Is that information as available as 2L SA positions?

To my knowledge, most of the big firms pay 1L SAs as much as 2L SAs (which is the same as they pay 1st year associates minus bonus(es)).

Oh wow! Starting to understand why they're so coveted.

Yep. Although I should note that what I meant was what they pay 1st year associates
prorated over the summer, minus any bonus(es).
Also many 1L SAs receive an offer to return for their 2L summer (and some even receive an offer for employment upon graduation, although that is much rarer as far as I can tell).

I agree with everything ph14 wrote. Information regarding specific firms is also publicly available on NALP. Mid-size firms in secondary markets usually pay the market rates (usually lower than the market rate in NYC/Chicago) for 1Ls as they do for 2Ls.
