What should I wear?

I have to go in to do a drug test, fill out/drop off some forms, and get fingerprinted for the DOJ. Is this something that would require a skirt, pantyhose, heels, etc.?

Gut instinct says no as I will only be interacting with HR employees, but I don't want to show up and look like an idiot given how conservatively dressed gov't employees are.

You might want to tell us what kind of job this is for.

Dress up. It's worth it to do just in case you get asked to meet with or see anyone last minute.

Yeah, I would dress in business attire. Better to look like the "idiot" that errs on the side of caution and goes out of her way to be presentable/professional than the idiot that gets lazy and cuts every plausible corner. Besides, you really never know who you might run into.

TLDR; people take pity on people who try too hard, but often have a hard time getting over a first impression that a person doesn't try hard enough.

I did this for USAO and just showed up in a tshirt and jeans. It's not like I was gunning to get a full time job from them. I ended up only seeing 2 HR people (who were dressed in jeans like it was casual Friday).

That being said, it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

I'm just not sure that etiquette demands you dress formally to piss in a fucking cup.

When I went for my background check stuff, I didn't dress up in a suit and tie, but I wore a nice collared shirt and tucked it in to jeans. I figured it couldn't hurt to look a little nicer than shorts and flip-flops, but I wasn't going to dress up to fill out paperwork.
