I am a 1L applying for summer externships. Some of the places have online applications that request/require a transcript but I won't have grades until probably January. What do I do?

can you generate an unofficial transcript? even if it's blank because of not having grades, it's the best you can do for now

Just apply without a transcript and make a note that you will provide a transcript as soon as one is available. They know that grades aren't out yet and a blank transcript is of no use to them.

You might as well wait until grades come out. Most places want to see them anyways before making a decision.

I recommend not doing this, it's much better to submit early and update with a transcript later. Some places will do first round interviews based on resumes alone.

I recommend not listening to this dumb advice and focusing on finals. A lot of places don't even start hiring right away.

Never said that finals shouldn't take priority. Most school's transcripts usually don't come out until well into January.
