Stub year V5 associate. Billed 12 hours/day average this week. Partner wouldn't let me go home before trains shut down tonight because the client is outside NYC and still needs the work by Monday. Sleeping in my office. Taking Q's.

My boyfriend billed over 60 hours this week (and still counting) because a massive project is due Tuesday. At least he's now working from home. I feel for you.

Sadly I'd consider it a perk. My summer firm didn't and when I got myself into a procrastrophy I slept on the carpet.

S&C is probably floating out into the ocean as we speak, but the other V5 firms aren't in any serious danger of either flooding or power loss due to their location further north and inland on Manhattan.

does it seem like the clients generally have the lawyers by the balls like this, i.e. if something is fucked on our end we just have to figure it out, and excuses won't be tolerated? wasn't there a time when top reputed lawyers didn't have to deal with that kinda stuff?

Fwiw, the clients on my deals have been fairly understanding (they themselves are enduring the onslaught, so they face similar issues). I've still had to work all day, but of course I am working from home. If I lose power, I'm 100% positive I'd be fine from that perspective.

Fwiw, all of the clients I'm working with and the firm also said I can book any hotel close by to the office and get reimbursed. I might regret not taking a room at the mandarin oriental if my power goes out .
