75k Starting: What's an estimated max if not making partner?

What it says. mid-level law firm in a secondary market, but they do have 200+ attorneys. They don't have lock-step and the evaluation process is pretty much a black box.

What do you guys think would be a reasonable expectation in terms of what an average attorney would be making there in 5-7 years (assuming you don't get the pay increase that comes with becoming an equity partner)?

What kind of firm has 200+ attorneys but pays 75k? ID mill?

I assume you'd top out at 200k at most. That's at least true of a couple of midlevel firms that I know of, and these are actually very successful and generate plenty revenue.

I am a bit perplexed? 1. When is 200+ lawyers classified as 'mid size?" and what market starts at 75K?

Expect a $3-5k raise per year if you are starting at $75k. If you aren't a superstar, you probably won't crack $100k before you leave.

If it is a plaintiff's side firm that ties bonuses to case outcomes, then all bets are off, though -- but I doubt that's what you are talking about if it is a 200 attorney firm.

OP here.

To clarify a few things:

Market isn't 75k, Market is somewhere between 115-130k.

That's Correct - it's not a plaintiff's firm, I'd say they do about 5% of plaintiff's work, at most. It's confusing the crap out of me because I think it's a really abnormal setup - Which is also why I'm hesitant to give out too much info.

By ID mill, I'm assuming you mean insurance defense? If so, nah, they're a full service firm.

Just wondering, because if so, they are a great firm and it sounds like the firm you are considering is very similar. Sometimes, these "medium-sized" firms will have a faster partner track to make their firm attractive to top students despite an initial salary that is lower than bigger firms. At least in my market, these firms like to advertise a 5 year partnership track. So that is something you may want to find out about that might sweeten the deal for you.

Oops, all I read was midsized and 75k, assumed between 40-100 attorneys. 200 is pretty big to be called medium sized.

I would think you'd see something like a 5% raise each year.

I thought ~50-250 lawyers was firmly MidLaw, barring NYC market pay.

Why not ask the law firm in question if you've already received an offer. Also, the firm may offer a base plus a percentage of billables received.
