Specifically asking about NYC V10 firms. If not, how / when do you get your tax LLM if you join their tax group?

Does the tax group require you to get an LLM? If not, why get it, then?Anonymous User wrote:Specifically asking about NYC V10 firms. If not, how / when do you get your tax LLM if you join their tax group?
Yes, definitely. Most of the people I know who do tax work at big firms (and who have been very successful doing so) do not have a tax LLM.Anonymous User wrote:I see plenty of associates without them, so I'm guessing no. Is it possible to have a successful tax career without an LLM?
This is the rule for ALL LLMs unless you got your law degree outside the US. Anyone who can get a firm job after a 2L SA would be insane to turn it down to then pursue an LLM.Aberzombie1892 wrote:Tax LLMs are -primarily- for people that cannot get a tax job.
This is very true, although I was more curious about either pursuing part time while working / taking time off to pursue and then go back to the firm. General consensus so far seems to be this isn't necessary, though.LawIdiot86 wrote:This is the rule for ALL LLMs unless you got your law degree outside the US.
