Chicago Summer Associates -- Housing

Not sure if this is the proper thread. I've seen some threads re: associate housing post-graduation. What about for just the summer?

Where do most big law SAs end up staying for the two/three months they are in Chicago?

A lot of people sublet from Northwestern law students. These tend to be in Streeterville. Seems like in general sublets are the easier to come by in the downtown area and Streeterville in particular than up north.

This is true, but if you want to be in a better part of the city in terms of restaurants + bars etc... you should move North (old town, lakeview, lincoln park) and commute either via express buses or red line. I know some buildings North, populated primarily by professionals, that offer housing just for summer. If you ask this question later, I might even provide you with specifics. Congratulations in getting a Chicago offer from outside of the city, even though the market was bad this year.

thank you. i'm familiar with the chi neighborhoods and would definitely prefer old town/lincoln park to streeterville or river north. feel free to pm me if you've got any buildings/locations you think would be accommodating.

I don't think many buildings are going to give you short term housing. You'll pretty much have to sublet from a private party, so it's still probably way too early to be planning for this.

I lived in Old Town last summer and loved it. PadMapper was an awesome resource for finding people subletting, although last time I checked they weren't allowed to use craigslist so it might not be as good anymore

Quoted anon here. After living in Streeterville for my SA last summer, I agree. It's pretty lame. But if it's all you can get for the summer, it's fine. I found that it was harder to find a sublet outside of Streeterville.

I consider Lincoln Park to be more scenic and more fun than, say, Streeterville. Lincoln Park should also be cheaper on average. I don't know much about the availability of sublets though. The downside of Lincoln Park is that it's probably further from your office than Streeterville is. The commute doesn't have to be bad. 30-45 minutes from your door to your office in some cases. If you live right next to the Brown Line, maybe it could even be a 25 minute commute to the Loop.

I'm going to need to sublet in Chicago this summer. Any Northwestern students interested in subletting?

I'm trying to figure out how expensive it will be to sublet. If it is too expensive I'm going to have to live with my in-laws a long metra ride out of town.

I have a large, south facing one bedroom in the South Loop with parking available, a valet, a doorman, on site dry cleaners, a gym, a pool, a laundry room, and a lake view that I'll be subleasing this summer. I'm on the 34th floor. It's also well furnished with art, equipped with air filters in each room, a water filter etc. etc. I'm also literally a 2 minute walk to Trader Joe's, a 5 minute walk to Walgreens, a 10 minute walk to Target, and have an awesome brunch place right downstairs (and 2 others a five minute walk from me). I'm also right across the street from the park and live next to the Chicago Art Institute. There's also a bus stop right downstairs. I pay ~1,700/ month and am looking for $1480/ month for it. Alternatively, I could "swap" housing with you for your NYC apartment for the summer. Message me if anyone is interested.

Sorry if this sounded "addy." I'll take it down if it's offensive. But, it would be nice to find someone with whom to trade apartments.

Bump/tag. I figure it's still early, but I'm also willing to room up with someone (who doesn't suck) to make things a little easier financially.

I'd like a short commute; <30 minutes if possible.

Worth a shot to see if I can rent my place here.

I've got a large 1 BR place in Evanston in an older building. Right next to a purple line el stop that will take you directly to the loop during rush hour in 40 minutes. Building is pet friendly. Price is negotiable but I pay $1,375 during the school year.

I have a studio in Streeterville, easy commute to the loop (about 15 mins tops). About 600 square feet, faces right out over the lake with an awesome view of the lake and Navy Pier. 1275 a month, a block from buses down to the loop, 5 min walk to Michigan Ave.

Still firming up my plans but will probably be subletting my place in Wicker Park. It's a 2 bedroom but the roommate is chill and not there most of the time. 900 a month including comcast internet/dish network with all the channels. Private bath, central air and free parking space out back included. 2 blocks from Division blue line. 15 minutes all in to Sidley/Kirkland/Jones Day/DLA Piper. 18 to Skadden. 20 to Mayer.
