C&F Question

Quick C&F question:
From 2005-2010, my primary source of income was working as a tutor/coach for high school and college students at a high-skill extracurricular activity (think chess, debate, quiz bowl, etc.). Generally I would have an "affiliated" position with a team, but I was usually paid on a per-tournament or per-practice basis. Had 5 of these jobs in 5 years. Two of these positions actually got me a 1099, but 3 of them just paid me under the table (as did some other short-term contract work).
The CA bar has 2 ways I can report this:
(a) There is a "have you ever been in business for yourself" question - I can answer "yes" and provide information about what I did each year, and include references.
(b) I can list positions of over 6+ months as "previous employment", and provide references there.
Thoughts? I am inclined to answer (a) (just because none of these positions actually have HR departments or employee records, and I was definitely working on a contract basis), but I want to know if doing so is accurate or will present any other problems. Assume that I paid SE taxes on everything I made.
