2012 grad, biglaw callback interview (no SA experience)

Has anyone had experience getting into biglaw after graduation with no biglaw experience?

I just graduated in May 2012 from a T20 school. I didn't get a summer associate position my 2L summer (worked in house instead). I saw an opening for a big law firm looking to fill a vacancy in its corporate group (guessing because its summer class wasn't big enough) and got a screener interview. I received an invite for a callback last week.

I have pretty good grades (not top 10% but significantly above median) and was on a secondary journal. I always thought it would be impossible to get into biglaw if I didn't summer. Will my lack of experience be a huge handicap in interviewing?

No, I have never heard of this happening to anyone.

Your lack of biglaw experience will put you at a massive disadvantage. I recommend you get some biglaw experience in the week between now and your CB.

What is the purpose in asking this question? As rad points out, there is no way to rectify your lack of SA at this point. They already gave you a CB, so they are obviously considering you seriously. Just go in there and show them how the experience that you do have will translate to what they need. Good luck!

I've had interviewers ask me why I didn't do a 2L SA and the like.

So be prepared for that kind of question, but they're spending money on you for a callback so it's not like they're uninterested.
