I'm currently sifting through 30 applications for two spots on a journal position. I see now why interviewers and employers are so busy and why they don't have time to carefully review your resume line by line. I just naturally glance at the GPA and any employers or accomplishments that catch my eye. Anyone ever go through this? Now I see why job selections can be so competitive and somewhat random. Applications start looking the same, you forget what people did, and you really can tend to just start relying on GPA as the easiest and most neutral indicator of merit.

Any current law firm interviewers/employers that can speak to this? Other people in hiring capacities?

Did about 150 for my journal. Realized how totally boned I was during OCI when I saw what the "base level" of resume was at my school.

The two times I was a hiring committee we had grade and/or law school cutoffs.

The same held true when culling resumes for my judges as a law clerk.

Made things alot easier.

but yeah, my firm circulates resumes when asking for interviewers for CBs and i occasionally glance mostly at GPA and WE. key is to use at least nothing less than 12 pt font and bold + italics when necessary to highlight important stuff.

All I can say is that coming from a non-lottery pick school, firms must also look at soft factors or I would have been passed over every time. (Though still not totally sure what exactly got me so many screeners.)
