A friend of mine applied last year, and was selected for an interview. His stats weren't necessarily all that impressive: middle of his class at a T3 school, but he had experience in immigration law. DHS seems to be the most mysterious of all the honors programs as no one really talks much about it.
Mysterious is right. I'm not even sure what kind of background (beyond public interest oriented) they're looking for in an applicant. Immigration makes sense. But DHS' mission is much broader. It's hard to fit law school classes into that framework.

Any idea what honors attorneys at DHS do? I know they rotate through a bunch of really different sounding departments... how much is immigration, how much is national security, and how much is just general administrative law?

Any updates on contact/interviews? What about the person who got a call? Did you interview yet?

Stats?
T1, top 20%, LR (board position), MC, a clinic, advanced degree in another field, lots of not-especially-relevant but memorable work experience, 2 clerkships.

I'm the anon who got the call. Accepted a federal clerkship and withdrew from the application process. I'm definitely re-applying for post-clerkship, though.

Good luck, everyone!

If you don't mind saying, how long did the interview go? (I forgot to ask and since I'm doing it at work I was kind of wondering how long I'll be tied up.)

what makes you think that? I know someone who got at least a first round interview and was around median, so I doubt it was their grades that got them an interview.

because based on this thread all the initial interviewing selection is done...I heard nothing from DHS. I did fed govt both summers, and during semester, and got another internship now - but below median grades. So yeah...this is out for me, just waiting for the rejection letter if I even get that.

I have nothing to report but am anxious to hear about callbacks. Was anyone else told around or after Nov. 7th?

I was told they were finishing 1st round interviews this week and would decide on callbacks early next week. I had the impression people would be notified next week and the callbacks would take place Nov. 7-18.

I was told the exact same thing after my 1st round interview.

Since DC's closed down today (and tomorrow?), I can't imagine anyone will hear anything until later in the week...
