I am wondering how much the US offices of Ashurst pay their associates. I thought this was a top int'l firm that would play close to market or market. But, I read somewhere online that they pay first year 35K. Anyone have info?

You might have stumbled onto info for their UK training contract. No idea what they pay in the States (didn't even know they had a US office...), but that figure sounds about right for a first year trainee (in GBP).
Edit: scooped

Just read their London attorneys make 65 GBP on par with A&O. So I would assume their US offices pay similar to market in NY, maybe slighlty less.

i know for a fact that UK firms pay US associates US salaries.
I worked at a UK firm for the summer and got an offer. I got paid 3k a week for the summer and my full-time offer is 160k.

Yes but I think they're talking about the New York office. However, if London pays NY market (plus COLA), it's almost certain that NY pays the same.

UK firms in NY pay market too. I have classmates who worked for
clifford chance and Linklaters. Their offers give 160k as well.
Think about it, if they want to attract US legal talent from Wall Street firms, they have to pay market. It is not likely they can bring the trainee system from UK to the US and still retain talents.

Yes, obviously. But not all firms in NY pay New York market. I didn't even know Ashurst had a NY office, but it's safe to assume they pay market, unless you find out otherwise. No one was saying they paid UK trainee salary in NY; it's a completely different system and recruitment model.

I would actually be surprised if Ashurst paid its US associates market salaries. Its presences in the States is nowhere near comparable to the magic circle firms here. The NY office has like 30 attorneys and the D.C. office 10, associates included. I would guess Ashurst pays 100k+ but not market.

As someone who works at Ashurst, I can tell you that the US offices pay market salaries in line with other big firms in NY and DC.
