What happens if you pass the test but, due to character and fitness, your admittance gets delayed for one reason or another. If you've accepted an offer (smaller midsize firm in my case), will they just fire you? Or will they keep you on as a law clerk? Does it just depend on how much they like you?

At most large firms, it won't matter. Your utility to the firm is going to be nearly identical with or without your law license for a very long time.

C&F gets held up for various reasons. DENIAL may be a problem, but a delay isn't something so unusal it would damage your nascent career.

Thank you
Anyone have any anecdotal evidence either way?

Yeah... I got held up for 4 months for a bunch of absurd traffic violations that bordered on criminal liability (I was a jerk off from 17-19 --- well I'm a jerk off now, but I drove too fast then). My firm had no problem with it. If its just a small delay (especially with the number of attorneys and the practice areas you described), I really don't see a huge problem brewing here. Best of luck on the results and the C&F.
