Greenberg Traurig CB

Hey all, my last CB is coming up and I was hoping the vast knowledge of TLS could help me get a job for next summer. Can anyone speak to the culture of the firm (I've heard sweatshop come up a few times), their particularly strong practice areas (if there is anything other than real state), and their reputation in NY?

Thanks!!!

They got Dennis Block from CWT so the NY office has beefed up their M&A cred.

Be careful and make sure you inquire about offer rates in the NY office. In their main HQ office in Miami, I heard more than 60% got no-offered this summer.

Where did you hear this? Their nalp form for miami lists that they had a 100 percent offer rate for the class of 2011. They typically only have SA classes of like 5 or so, so it is odd you heard they no offered 3 of the 5.

No way that's the case. They're planning on having like eight this year. Why would they take so little to no-offer 2/3 of them? They said they don't want competition among summers, and all that would do is create competition.

Directly from recruiting coordinator they no offer 1 last year b/c of personal issues with the candidate. Got an offer for the miami office yesterday.

That's awesome, congrats!!! Have a CB coming up with them (also Miami). Slightly nervous, but hoping for the best. Do you know how many SAs they're planning on having next summer?

I had a CB in LA a few weeks ago. They stressed how they were entrepreneurial and how a lot of them lateralled over from other firms because they felt like they were either too small a part of something to really take ownership of it or they weren't hands on enough. I think it's somewhat an-eat-what-you-kill firm but for the right person it could be a great fit. I know after your third year you aren't paid market and instead get a % of what you bill, that could be good or bad.

Whatever you do don't ask about the capital call.

+1. I got my offer for a different Florida office today. I hear things like sweatshop, but I think that's true for most first years.

GT really prefers laterals so it is an odd culture. I've heard people say there is very little unity and that people are loyal to partners or groups.

Seems odd. Just the LA office?

Any other thoughts on the NY office?

Not sure if that compensation arrangement is just LA. They did seem to prefer laterals, which to me doesn't sound ideal, I generally preferred the firms where a large percentage of the people I met started as summers.

I can tell you that at the LA office this is not the case at all.

FWIW, I heard that GT made offers to 100% of the summers in their NY office last year and 100% accepted...
