Is there a big difference? (Mainly talking about Partner taking associate/student out to dinner/lunch).

One of the huge differences is during dinner you may (and sometimes should) have a drink (wine or mixed drink) whereas lunch that is damn near an autoding (who starts drinking at noon on a weekday after undergrad?).

Definitely disagree re: autoding. I had lunch with two associates at a V15 in NY, they both got wine, and when I hesitated, I was essentially told to shut up and drink. Offer.

Agreed. I was told to order a cocktail around 12:30.

This also happened to me. Was pretty much told after ordering that I would have seemed "dull and boring" if abstaining while they drank. No decision yet, but was only a few days ago.

If you are invited to dinner, does that mean they're more interested in you than if you are invited to lunch?

If they really like you, it's afternoon tea.

And if they really, really like you, they take you to brunch the morning after.

Only difference is that dinners are generally longer. If youre introverted, prepare to be able to converse for multiple hours. Much more exhausting than lunches.
