Any anecdotal evidence one way or the other, either at the screener or callback stage?

Got an email back to a screener thank you (outside OCI), and I was still dinged.

Email back from screener right before the ding. Means jackshit. Don't get your hopes up.

If nothing else, a pleasant response might be a factor in considering the culture of the firm. For me, hearing back from the majority of cb interviewers at a particular firm would be one small factor when comparing various places.

From my personal experience, a thank you email means that the person really liked you and feels sorry that you probably will get dinged.

While possibly true, I think it tends to be more of a factor about culture, as the other poster indicated. The replies I have received always came from the firms known for having an amazing culture. I think they try to add to that reputation.
