Has anyone done the "i will be in x city for callbacks next week and i would like the opportunity to come to your office for more interviews" bit with any success? Career services tells us to send these emails but ive sent one or two with no response. Whats a good way of framing the request? How long should you wait after a screener with no response to send?

I've done this a bit and had no success, so I don't know how effective it actually is.

i'm confused. would this be in the context of a firm that you already did a callback at or one that you had a screener with but has not yet extended an offer for callback interviews?

I did this will every firm I mass-mailed last year and got several interviews and an offer out of it. (In DC.)

In situations like this I do not understand sending an email. Call the recruiter! They get a million emails every day, it is easy to ignore or say no over email. It is much harder to say no over the phone.

good advice! what do you say on the phone? what if you didn't do a screener, but just dropped off materials at an OCI hospitality suite?

what about firms with which you had a screener weeks ago, have heard nothing, and now have an offer from a separate firm? i'm assuming im on some kind of waitlist, but now the clock is ticking. is it bad form to call and see what's going on and mention that you have an offer and need to know?

Did it and it worked. Have a callback with such a firm next week, actually.

did this, succeeded. v100 firm.

call is tcr. if you have a connection w/ the firm, like if you've done a screener and not heard back yet, or if you have a contact there whose name you can drop, do it. you don't stand to lose anything.

I did this (by phone). They were thrilled that I asked to come up again, offered dinner, and gave me an offer while I was there. Honestly, the offer was probably coming anyway, based on their reaction, so I don't think it actually made a difference. So basically.. I think it could help and I can't imagine how it would hurt.

When you called did you phrase it as "I'd like more interviews" or more subtle, like "I'll be in DC and would like to stop by"? any difference between firms you screened with vs mass mailed?
Also, if I'm going to be in that city Friday, as in 3 days from now, still worth asking?

I was up front with mine. I said that I was going to be in the area such and such a date and that I would love it if they could get me in for a second interview (or first if it was with a firm I hadn't screened with).

Just wanted to add that the firm was really happy I asked to come in. Sometimes, especially non-major market firms, it takes a bit to get in the door. If you really show that you want to be there, you will get that foot in the door. Sometimes just have to wedge it in there yourself, though.
