Considering an offer from S&C and wondering how many weeks and the approximate date range of SA program. Just realized offer letter doesn't specify. Anyone current 2Ls ask? Any 3Ls care to share info about last summer?

It was 12 weeks this past summer... but S&C was really flexible about letting people split, or just leave early if they didn't want to or couldn't work the full twelve weeks. Most people worked the full twelve weeks; however, there were plenty who left early. There were three different start dates summers could chose from and, as long as you worked some minimum number of weeks (can't remember exactly) I believe you could chose any end date you wanted.

Did you know anyone who split with another firm? Did they get offers? TLS says 13 weeks, assuming that's old info?

I do know people who split with other firms and they did get offers...I know of at least 2 who left S&C's summer program early to split with another firm and they both got offers... there were other people who split and left early to work with non-profits or government (they also got offers) and plenty who went back to their 1L firms after the S&C program ended (or who left only a week or a couple of days early) who also got offers.

It has been 12 weeks for at least the past two years... I think 13 weeks may have been pre-2008.

S&C gives 100% offers. Don't worry about splitting hurting your chances of getting an offer -- you'll get one.

Hijack—any idea how S&C lit compares to DPW? Offer in hand from DPW, and leaning toward canceling S&C cb this week. Good idea / bad idea?

Unsubstantiated S&C trolling.

I wouldn't say the difference is that large, although the AUSAs I spoke to when deciding between firms seemed to prefer S&C (didn't ask for specific reasons). Either way, I definitely wouldn't cancel the S&C callback unless you're head over heels in love with DPW. The chances you'll get an offer from the S&C callback are very high, and it's worth taking half a day to secure that as an option and investigate it should you so desire.

DPW is probably the least or second least litigation focused of the V10s. Litigation is just a bigger part of SullCrom and it's securities litigation and white collar practices are often described as the best in the nation. DPW is an amazing firm for capital markets and credit but it's just not a litigation powerhouse. S&C on the other hand is a feeder for SEC and AUSA.

Career services makes it sound like splitting is such a terrible idea that very much imperils your offer, not the case at S&C (whose website says they discourage splitting)

At both firms, about 1/3 of the NYC office is involved in litigation. DPW's litigation department is also a feeder for SDNY AUSA. Also, of the other NYC-based V10, Cleary, Weil, and Latham aren't even Band 1 in NYC for litigation.

If you look at Legal 500's ratings, which tend to go more in-depth than Chambers, DPW and S&C are the V10 that are in Tier 1 for white collar. Cravath, S&C, Skadden, DPW, and Simpson are the V10 that are Tier 1 for securities.

Cleary was moved up to Band 1 in the latest rankings.
