All NYC offices, want to do lit, anyone have opinions on any of these 3?

Only met with Curtis out of this particular group. I thought they were great, and I like places with lower associate:partner ratios like that (theirs is the best of the three here; their lit department ratio is somewhat better than Proskauer's, and miles above Shearman's 4:1). Proskauer has the nicer offices, though.

OP here, thanks - thats a good point. Broader question - other then associate to partner ratios what kind of things do you think are most important in choosing a firm?

OP, I also got an offer from Curtis. I really like them, but there was something lacking in the atmosphere. I know that is vague, but I'm wondering if you had an cultural hesitations after your visit?

Proskauer's NYC office is gorgeous. Small factor to consider, but it certainly seems an inspiring place to work. The choice should depend on what kind of lit you want to do. If you're interested in L&E litigation, then Proskauer is a no-brainer.

Can anyone with an offer from Curtis elaborate on when you had your CB and when you got your offer? Much appreciated.

OP here I have offers from the other 2 upcoming callback with Curtis Mallet which I am excited about and hope results in an offer as well. Just trying to get the buzz on all 3 in case these end up being my options.

I am surprised so many people liked Curtis. The guy I interviewed with didn't have a shred of personality and openly talked about how bad his firm was (not even kidding). Weirdest interview I had at OCI. Guess I just got a bad interviewer or something

Interesting that was the opposite of my experience. The guy who came from Curtis had left and gone to a very prestigious firm in a different market and returned a few years later. He said others had done the same realizing Curtis was as good as it got in big law in a lot of ways. He also talked about how people tend to stay there for a long time. All of which I found pretty compelling.

I had a very similar experience with both my screener and callback.

Does Shearman have good lit? My sense is their strength is transactional work.

Should Vault ranking be a factor here?

Mind sharing when you got your offer/when your callback was?

OP here - thanks for the responses so far - anyone care to add anything about any of these three firms?

The smaller summer classes of Proskauer and Curtis probably would shield you better from another downturn. Proskauer has better name recognition domestically, so unless you're really keen on doing international work, I think that's the way to go.

I have a similar question re: Shearman - are they really in decline? Is the name still bigger then others on this list or say a Wilkie Farr, Dechert etc.
