I had some personal change recently and am considering looking at a different market from the one I am doing my 2L summer in. What are the key considerations and what are the realistic outcomes?

Namely - does it matter if I have a 2L SA position and how school dependent is this process?
if you mean biglaw, yes it matters if you have a 2L SA (and you want to have an offer from them, not just the summer), and impact of school is pretty much the same as for regular 2L OCI. 3L hiring is more about filling specific needs than 2L hiring is, so to the extent you can demonstrate experience or at least interest in something they need, that can help. But it’s still biglaw, they still care about the same things. Doesn’t mean people from lower-ranked schools can’t get a biglaw job, but it’s still harder than from the T14.

Okay so a little more data but HYS and a 2L at V10 that usually does 100% offers, would that be enough to overcome some of these barriers? Not looking for guarantees but just nervous about what feels like a very terrifying part of recruiting.

Wait did you do a 2L SA or are you a 2L? If youre just a 2L: read the title of this thread, this isnt the thread for that?

But, if you are a 3L at HYS and did a V10 2L Summer Associate..... Go apply to other firms. 99.9 percent of biglaw is 100% offer rate, dunno why that matters. I reneged on my offer after I had accepted and told them I would be targeting a new market. Simple as that--worked great. Got a job offer two days later.

Is now too late to start looking? 3L at a top 10, summered at a smaller firm after striking out. Got an offer but would like to see what options there are in big law.

2L at a T25 (think Minn, UF, ASU, etc.) right now with a 3.3 GPA going into spring of 2L. Is it too late to improve my GPA and maybe stand a chance at "true" Big Law (i.e. starting salary of $200k+ or at least $170k)? Luckily, I landed a small/regional Big Law gig for this summer with a regional office of an Am Law 200 firm, but I'm guessing if I got offered the starting salary wouldn't be as good as true Big Law. I'm a little worried I'll get no-offered there anyway because of my GPA, actually.

Please read the title. As a 2L, this thread is not for you.

3.21 GPA as a 1L at T14 and now 3.69 as a 3L. Since last semester, I have received about 6 screeners from Biglaw --> 2 callbacks --> both dings. I completed one more screener this week, and three days have passed. I got the same feeling that I have been dinged again. This just sucks. I put a lot of efforts to improve my grades, and I really hope this is the end of the torture... Finger crossed.

Echoing this, but if you make a thread in the main forum, OP, I’ll be glad to reply there.

Fingers crossed for you too. Don't know if it will provide any comfort, but I had a similar trajectory as you did and I know the struggle and stress you feel still looking for a landing spot right now while all your friends are r3Laxing, planning vacations, and otherwise taking it easy. I had a bunch of interviews too, but ultimately got an offer right around this point in the year. It was my only offer, but it only takes one, and now here I am years later still working big law at a V25 as a well-respected and sought-after associate in my group. Hang in there, you only need one

Agreed. Fingers crossed, and don't stop applying. I got my offer on the last day of classes as a 3L, and landed at a V10 that I somehow actually enjoy. My offer came from cold emailing firm recruiters directly for what its worth.

I struck out at T14 OCI 3.5 years ago, and graduated into the pandemic job market in May 2020. It took me years, hundreds of applications, more interviews than I can count, and a master's degree on top of my JD, but I finally got a fairly well-paying midlaw job in the geographic area I want to be in.

Just wondering whether any firms in NYC or Boston are still looking for 3Ls graduating in May. School's symplicity website has nothing posted.

Stats/Background: lower T14, top 30%, looking for a transactional position

I know llms at my CN have been getting offers over the last couple of weeks. Pretty sure top 30 percent T-14 JD would be more desirable for firms.

T14 3L here, struck out hundreds of applications and tens of interviews in every conceivable fashion. Just got offered my dream job, 2 days after my last final.

For months I would read this thread and the eventual success stories always made me feel better; I hope anyone still searching for jobs finds what they’re looking for.

I'm wondering whether firms that are looking for mid-levels are more open to hire LLMs with years of experience than T14 3Ls. Btw do you know which firms those LLMs are going to?

Have you tried looking at midlaw firms? It's rather late in the hiring season for biglaw, and something is better than nothing.

Not yet. Honestly I don't even know where to find info on mid-laws. Apparently you can find which firm is good at which area for biglaw firms on Vault/Chambers Associate. I'm not sure where to find such information for midlaws...

Just start googling firms. i.e. Construction law firm, or healthcare policy. Look for key words like that and see if there are any. I'd also scroll linkedin forever. Honestly, if you are looking at some smaller firms, I'd recommend physically stopping by and handing in a resume- i've never done this (I called and spoke to someone), but heard it has worked for others.

Does anyone have a pulse on how long the wait is from call back to offer typically for 3L recruiting? Is it similar to OCI?

Takes longer IME. The offer I got 3L took at least two weeks after my callback if I recall. The rejections were within a few days usually.

My first 3L offer took 3-4 weeks. But then I told the other firms about that offer and the next two offers came within 3 days of the callback.

I think it's too variable to generalize - I had responses within days in some cases and up to 4+ weeks in others. The offer I ultimately accepted came 1.5 weeks after my callback

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
