What is the etiquette for canceling an accepted callback? Is this allowed? How close to the interview is too soon? Who should one contact? Should it be email or phone?

I think people do this frequently. I'd imagine you should contact the recruiter by phone and let them know.

Just don't do it the morning of or something like that.

If you have already accepted an offer (or would not take an offer from the CB firm) then you should cancel no matter what. Once you know, let them know.

Caveat: if you legitimately got an offer that morning that you would take over the CB firm then you probably should. It's not a pretty situation either way but cancelling is better than wasting their time imo. But you shouldn't wait until the morning of if you knew days before.

I think so, yeah. Just keep it simple: you've accepted an offer with another firm and, while you appreciate their time and consideration, you will not be able to attend your callback on x date.

CSO is wrong. Unless its the day-of there is absolutely no need to call. Did the firms you didn't get a callback at call? No way, you are rejecting their callback and only need to send a polite and professional email.
