Kavanaugh, despite his OSCAR profile stating otherwise, definitely does not hire on-plan. As I understand it, he often sets up informal meetings with HYS 2L superstars through professor connections and essentially makes his hiring decisions well before the summer.

Down to 37 on the CoA hope list:

DC: Henderson, Randolph
First:
Second: Winter, Newman
Third: Vanaskie
Fourth: Shedd, Wynn
Fifth: Benavides, Graves
Sixth: Cook, Guy, Clay, Keith, Siler, Martin, Griffin, Stranch,
Seventh: Bauer, Coffey
Eighth: Melloy, Bye, Riley, Shepherd, Loken
Ninth: Kleinfeld, Schroeder, Gould, Tashima, Rawlinson
Tenth: Porfilio
Eleventh: Hull, Kravitch, Barkett, Carnes, Fay

(These are CoA judges we have not heard made calls, bold indicates Judge has history of late calls)

This is not comprehensive, that it did not start from a list of all CoA judges, so if there are others you think have not been mentioned, please let me know.

Last I checked, Daughtrey (6th) was on this list. Has someone reported hearing from her?

Hurwitz on the 9th Circuit has made calls. Murguia is off plan/not accepting 3Ls, her applications expired before the 4th.

I would assume she has. In years past, she has tag-teamed interviewed with Judge F. Motz.
Yeah, my school has gotten a Motz interview but no Blake...we've had a lot of alum clerk for her though, so that's why I am surprised nobody has mentioned her.

Re: Judge Henderson - she typically only hires from a small handful of schools and has a certain type that she hires. Plus, she only has 2 term clerks. Thus, I would strongly assume that she has already made calls (like she has in years past).

Re: Judge Kleinfeld - he has a very long interview process and the people I know who were interviewing with him started their interviews with him back in April.

Re: Judge Benavides - I heard that he was taking a fairly reduced load. Also, in years past, he has hired off-plan in May.

Re: Judge Wynn - I thought he was looking at alumni back in the spring.

Re: Judge Martin - I thought he already hired over the early summer.

Re: Judge Stranch - I thought she hired during the middle of the summer.

Re: Judge Carnes - he might have an open slot as chief, but he usually hires in April-May.

I thought she was off-plan and looking over the summer.

Not sure if these comments deserve taking the names off the list. To remove a name, we must learn a judge either called 3Ls or is full. Many judges hire alums before calling 3Ls on plan. What are others thoughts on this? I think the point is whether you can hope the judge has just not yet finished going through 3L applications.

Judge Nguyen hired a 3L for 2013 over the summer at my school, and this 3L mentioned that she generally tends to hire alums rather than 3Ls. Not sure if she still has spots.

Any update on Houston judges? I only recall seeing something about Gilmore having made calls. I'm particularly curious about Judge Lynn Hughes (he only accepted paper applications).

Judge Hull on the 11th typically does not move until after the on-plan rush is over. I'm surprised Judge Rawlinson on the 9th isn't on this list -- she also typically moves post-plan, but also may have hired alums.

Judge Cole on the 6th has made calls.

Judge Vanaskie on the 3rd will probably call sometime on Monday or Tuesday -- typically a later caller but still sticks to the plan for the most part.

Keeping in mind that some of the names probably are full and were not hiring, is anyone surprised there are 37 CoA Judges on the hope list?

Curious for color on D.Colo. and D.N.M. In particular:
Arguello, Blackburn, Daniel, Jackson, Martinez; Armijo, Black, Browning, Herrera, Vazquez

For 3Ls, I believe the only N.D. Cal. judges hiring are Seeborg (already has been interviewing), Davila (not sure), and Alsup (only for an IP clerk position, and he conducted interviews last week).

Ambro just posted an Oscar listing ... for 2014.

Anyone heard anything from Bankr. SDNY yet? There was an error with the mail merge on one of my recommendations, so I haven't sent out my apps yet. Trying to decide if it's worth applying at this point, particularly since they tend to really prefer people who practiced for a bit.
