Davis Polk Offers 2012

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Aug 16, 2012 2:05 pm

CB (NY) a little while ago. Any word on offers there?

I know of a few offers that have been handed out. A day or two after the CB seems typical.

I had mine today. I really loved it... some great people, but they callbacked a quarter of my class--around 100 people(!)

Expecting a ding soon. It was nice just to visit and meet people today (and get a free lunch).

DPW's post-CB offer timing is traditionally erratic. Some will get next day offers and others will wait for a week+. August is a typical vacation time for both lawyers and clients in the line of work Davis Polk does, so it's common that the hiring committee won't be able to meet with precise regularity. Don't worry/read too much into it.

A quarter of the class means it's either NYU (most likely — no travel expenses) or Harvard. I doubt a quarter of GULC is going.

Has to be either NYU or CLS.

Ah, you're right. A quarter of CLS would be around 100.

I second this. I did a CB at the exact same time as one of my law school friends: I got an offer four days later, friend got one almost two weeks later. They are quite meticulous, and it's particularly difficult when people are leaving for vacation, going to other schools' OCIs, &c.

I'm the original anon. with the callback today. I go to CLS.

It was a great time! Good luck to everyone with callbacks.

Not the best place for this but hopefully you folks would know. Do they send you a schedule the night before the CB of who you'll be meeting with? Wondering if I should be worried.

They do not. The con to that is that you won't know who you'll be interviewing with and won't be able to prep. The pro to that is that you won't know who you'll be interviewing with and won't be expected to have prepped.

They don't email you a schedule, but when I logged into the online scheduling site the morning of the callback, the list of interviewers had been posted there. I don't think every candidate can reasonably be expected to discover this, though. I didn't have time to actually look up my interviewers after I found the list, and it wasn't a problem.

^^^^ This. They added one in for good measure, which threw me off a bit b/c he was the one with the more hard-hitting questions (grades, specific career goals, etc.)...and they put him first.

That was Thurs. Haven't heard back but not really stressing, there are a number of places I liked.

If I went in last Wednesday and still have not heard back, is it a done deal? A classmate went in Tuesday and received an offer Friday. I feel like I'm toast.

As has already been mentioned in this thread, offers are erratic. I received mine 2 weeks after my CB last year, whereas I know people who had their CBs the same week as mine who got their offers within a couple of days of their CBs.

For what its worth, I also had mine last Fri and received a ding letter today in the mail. If you haven't heard anything yet, that might be a good sign. Good luck!

Thanks! I've been waiting for a ding letter so good to know they're likely still sitting on my app.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
