Transfer Applicant: Who to use as references?

I would like to apply for two open positions in my area - one is a full-time summer (volunteer) position with immigration court and the other is a part-time paid year-round position with the public defender's office. Both jobs require three professional references.

I am a transfer student this year, and can only think of one (maybe two) people from my 1L school/1L job that would agree to be references. So ... who else should I consider? Is it satisfactory to use a supervisor from a job I held several years before law school? Who else could I consider? Because I'm a transfer student, I obviously haven't had the opportunity to build any relationships with professors at my new school. Should I apply with two references and hope the employers think it's good enough?

What do you suggest?

Thanks!

Did you work this summer?

I'm a transfer, too. My references consist of my employer from 1L summer, my writing professor from my old law school, and another professor from my old law school who I was very close with.

I imagine that the best references would be law related ones, but if you really can't find a third then I personally think you should be fine using a supervisor from a job you had for the years preceding law school. :)

OP here.

Anonymous user #1 - Yes. My supervisor would be one of my references. My only other reference would be a LRW prof from 1L.

Anonymous user #2 - Thanks. I'll ask a former supervisor.
