I'm wrapping up my internship this week, and I would like to thank the judge and law clerk for all they taught me this summer. Would a thank you card be weird? Thanks.

This question has been asked before and some people have given "absolutely not" answers - though that dealt with gifts, not notes. In any case, I disagree. My Judge wouldn't have minded anyway. Go ahead and write them one.

It's not weird. I've received several now as a law clerk; I wish I had done this when I was an intern.

Not weird at all. I like baking so I made something for everyone in my chambers, including the legal assistant, and they all were very appreciative. If you had a wonderful summer, there is nothing wrong with expressing your gratitude.

Having interned for a Fed CoA judge, I will offer the advice that a thank you note is often expected, and if you want a chance to actually clerk with the judge, I'd say it is essential.

More generally, it is just good manners.

No. I never expect them.

Separate note for the judge, and then clerks at your discretion. If you had minor interaction with some, and a lot with others, I'd just send one to the individuals you actually feel thankful for interacting with.
