Also, please post if invites for a reception or dinner are given.

It'd be helpful to know how many interview slots each office has. Also, if you are anonymous, may as well tell us your actual GPA. Bidding is weird, and it shouldn't necessarily be in order of preference. You are just trying to maximize your screening interviews. Do you have any sense of how many people in your class are bidding SoCal?

As for NY v. Chi, it'll probably be easier to land NYC.. But if you'd prefer Chi over NY then I'd either pick up Chicago in addition, or drop NY altogether. Don't potentially lock yourself into NY if you don't want to live there.

Without knowing numbers of slots, your list looks OK. I suspect that Susman and Irell might be wasted bids, and people who know more about NYC might be able to suggest other firms to drop. You will generally get interviews with all your top three bids and 7-8 of your top 10, so fill those with firms that are not too selective & have good sized classes.

For those of you who haven't read last year's thread yet: Don't. It'll just give you a heart attack, especially if you are planning to bid Chicago and/or have median grades.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the orientation half-truth-a-thon.

S&C is a complete wasted bid if you are hovering around median.

Transfers typically do very well with the traditional biglaw shops (so no MTO, W&C, etc.). The only major firms that appears to be off limits are WLRK and potentially SullCrom. If you want a specific market, I can probably give better info.

If I am specifically targeting the Chicago market, how high up should I put Kirkland and Sidley? Would putting them around 15-16 be too far down to get me an interview? Thanks

Even though they have a ton of interview slots, 15-16 would be too far down in my opinion (especially if Chicago is your target). I think I put them at 7 and 8 and received slots for both.

Anybody tally up the number of Chicago SA slots? Hopefully it increased relative to last year.

I would put the one you want more around 5. They both have a ton of interview slots but a large percent of the class will throw bids their way.

I had a friend who got K&E Chi at bid #20 last year, but I've heard of people missing Sidley at #8 or lower in years past. Those two are also likely to have spots open up from people dropping them prior to OCI.

But I wouldn't screw around too much with those two as they make up a good portion of the Chicago SA positions.

You'll be good to go for NYC/Chicago (small sample, but transfers found success at OCI with tip-top firms in both markets last year). It's really going to be all about how you sell yourself in interviews. The transfer panel at your orientation will probably talk more with you about this.

These NYC firms (except W&C is DC) are my bids 21-28. Do I need to move them up to higher priority or are these selective enough that most people won't bid? I'm seriously interested in all of these firms. listed the number of interview slots next to them

21 Williams & Connolly 38
22 Cravath 34
23 Simpson Thatcher 52
24 Weil Gotshal Manges 21
25 Wachtell 42
26 Sullivan Cromwell 42
27 Davis Polk Wardell 41
28 Cleary Gottlieb 42

I'm sure you'll do well, but TBF last year's transfers were a special bunch.. E.g. 2 kids who transferred from other T10 schools who both wrote on to LR.

From last years results, what are the really grade conscious firms in NY?

Wachtell, Cravath, S&C, DPW. Any others? Cleary? Simpson?

Thank you for thinking we were a special bunch. 8) Although two write-ons is a rarity, the vast majority of the non-LR transfers did well too. (V5/V10 offers). It also seems like transferring was even more competitive grade-wise this year too from my brief gander at the transfer forum.
