To gel the hair or not to gel?

I have a classic "Don Draper-ish" haircut. When I brush it and don't add gel, it looks fine, which is what I generally do. However, I was going to gel it for interviews but now I think that may come off as a bit much and make me look too severe or pretentious or something? I'm probably just being paranoid though. Thoughts?

Curious as to this as well, a short cut here and I don't want to gel.

I'm going for the Bruce Wayne look. Gotta use some product. I think as long as you don't look like a greaseball you'll be OK.

What is the ideal "conservative" hair style for guys?
I've been doing something similar to Don Draper, but I use non-shine stuff in my hair.

There are products that shape your hair but do not make it look like it is "geled." Go slightly more expensive. I do not think it should be obvious that someone has gel.

I use a product that doesn't look like gel. Check out Paul Mithell tea tree shaping cream.

DO NOT PUT SHIT IN YOUR HAIR.
Except maybe a SMIDGE of that stuff that you can't tell its in there.
Otherwise, you'll just look like an idiot. This is 2012. No one gels their hair. k?

Go natural up there. Gel the hair down there.

When rocking my hair business-style, I use a bit to keep it in place, but not too much. When your hair dries, it shouldn't appear appreciably darker. There's a difference between using a dollop of mousse on top and slicking your entire head in pomade.

As a point of reference:
My girlfriend (who is not an OCI interviewer so maybe you dont care)
Says she doesnt trust anyone with Gel in their hair.
says she likes the idea of using Gel "down there" as someone suggested earlier ITT.
encourages Pomade.

I'd also add it depends on the hair you have. If it's really curly and needs to be kept in place then perhaps some low shine/firm hold gel is cool to keep everything in order, imo.

First, your GF sounds cray cray.
Second, pomade makes your head look like a chocolate-dipped ice cream cone--you know, the kind you get at Dairy Queen?
Third, your GF sounds cray cray.
Fourth, there are plenty of products that keep hair in place without making it look "gelled."

There are some good pomades out there. Don't rule out the entire category. You just have to try some different brands and see what works for you.
