Is is allowed?
Is it legal/ethical for 2Ls to mass mail to firms coming to their school's OCI, but who they didn't apply to based on # limitations?

If they see that you mass mailed but didn't bid at OCI, won't they ask why they didn't make it in the top 45 or however many on your list? I suppose this is really only an issue at 100% preselect schools.

I asked our CSO (MVP here) and they said it was not only legal and ethical, but encouraged.Anonymous User wrote:Is it legal/ethical for 2Ls to mass mail to firms coming to their school's OCI, but who they didn't apply to based on # limitations?

Re: Is is allowed?
Of course that is ethical and allowed. OCI isn't the sole chance to speak with firms. If you have a lottery system and don't end up with a firm you bid on, of course you can contact them to express your interest. And similar to that, if you don't bid a firm, of course you can contact them AFTER OCI to let them you are interested (though you dont want to say that you didn't bid on them).

Re: Is is allowed?
Can we do this before OCI or do we wait until OCI is over at our school for these firms?
Wouldn't sending one out now indicate:
1) You didn't bid on them
2) You'd get a standard "we're coming to your OCI" response?

Correct. Wait until after OCI to do this. If you contact them before, they will all just say to bid them.Anonymous User wrote:Can we do this before OCI or do we wait until OCI is over at our school for these firms?

It really depends on you and the firm. I was able to not bid firms because they gave me consideration outside of OCI.kaiser wrote:Correct. Wait until after OCI to do this. Critique plan:
1) Compile all firms coming to EIP that I'm not bidding on
2) Once interview schedule is up, add firms that I bid on but do not have interviews with
3) Mail all of these firms AFTER the interview schedule goes up and I know I don't have an interview, but BEFORE EIP starts

I plan on doing this as well, for the simple reason that you have absolutely nothing to lose by doing it, and potentially something to gain.shock259 wrote:Critique plan:
