Keker van Nest, durie tangri (for IP), Kellogg Huber, Zuckerman Spaeder, Barlit Beck, Gibbs & Bruns, Boundurant Mixon, Beck Redden, Morvillo Abramowitz...

I'd probably consider Williams & Connolly on the borderline of "lit boutique" too.

If W&C is a boutique with over 200 lawyers then MTO should probably be as well since they have less than 200 lawyers.

I actually would say they are both "small" big-law firms. I wouldn't consider them boutiques anymore.

Look how hard this Morvillo partner tries to hide the law school she went to:

--LinkRemoved--

Her linkedin is particularly egregious. She specifically lists that she went to Yale for undergrad, but omits her law school:

Finally, I found a link that lists her law school: Western New England. I wonder if this lady has a chip on her shoulder.

Super cool non-sequitur and another excellent use of the anon feature.

You need to define the area of law.

White collar/defense then firms like KVN, Bartlit Beck, etc. would head the list. Maybe if you stretched the list it would include firms like MTO, Irell, Kellogg Huber, etc.

Plaintiffs' securities then it would be places like Labaton, Susman, Robbins Geller, Lieff, etc.

Plaintiffs side non-securities would be places like Altshuler Berzon

IP then it would be places like durie tangri and maybe Irell and Kenyon (if you consider them boutiques in terms of size)

For appellate, you would be talking about places like Horvitz & Levy, Kellogg Huber and probably a whole host of DC boutiques I can't name off the top of my head right now.

So you really have to rephrase your question.

Has anyone ever heard of Caldwell Leslie & Proctor (http://www.clnp.com)? They sent out letters to all the 9th Circuit clerks a few months back. It looks like they're a solid boutique. Not quite as selective as Susman/KVN/Bartlit Beck/Lieff Cabraser, but still a lot of impressive people.

You consider Robbins Geller elite? They make money, I'm sure, but they don't belong in the same post as the other firms you mentioned.

Posted anon because I know a lot of Robbins Geller people, and it probably wouldn't be hard for them to figure out who I am.

You could have just used the NY Bar Attorney Directory.

How do you define "elite"?

If it's selectivity, then probably not (although getting a gig at Robbins Geller isn't exactly easy).

If it's being good or preeminent in your field (a "go-to" firm), then absolutely. Between them and Lieff, they are probably the 2 best plaintiffs-side securities firms in the West Coast -- and, yes, that includes Susman. And Lieff doesn't exclusively do securities class action work.

They are well regarded in LA (from people I've spoken to, at least).

Yes, great firm.

But I wouldn't necessarily recommend going there as your first job out of law school (clerkship included). It's a great landing spot as a second job.

They try (and for the most part "do") recruit top-tier talent, but don't always have top-tier work.

It certainly is a lifestyle firm, more so than most lit boutiques in LA.

PM me if you want more info.
