do law firms care about classes you took

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Jul 20, 2012 9:49 pm

if you graduated magna or with honors?

I took a couple of 'easy' classes (not unreasonable and not total bullshit)

and I took 2 important classes pass/fail

you know, law firms typically ask to see your transcript...

I was told that they do so mainly to confirm that a candidate graduated. But the fact that you passed the bar/bar memberships should be sufficient indicators that I graduated.

a little.
if you target capital market groups, you are expected to have taken securities regulation.
But you don't really need to know much as a first-year.....

Considering that you haven't taken anything that isn't the standard 1L curriculum by the time OCI comes, I'd imagine not much. In one interview, I got the question "what are you taking this semester?" I am not sure if this means anything or not.

There are groups that care and groups that don't. Employment, environmental, M&A all have some core classes that you'll need to have if you're entering one of those groups.

But it's meaningless for OCI purposes IMO.

Aside from having a bunch of "Law & ___" classes on your transcript as a 2L, you should be fine. At our school we have to register for the entire year and the courses we pick show up on the transcript we give at EIW.
