Bidding 3 markets?

Below median at M. Want NYC, all my ties are to DC. Thoughts on bidding mostly NYC, a few DC, and a few Chicago (only because there are some lower-gpa Chitown firms coming)? Why is bidding more than 2 markets thought to hurt your chances? Thanks a ton, i've always been confused by this...

Because you are using bids on DC that you could use on NYC. NYC is easier to get than DC.

based on GPA data after 25 or so NYC firms, I might as well throw in DC firms because they are just as competitive if not less so than the remaining few NYC id bid on...unless the firms for which we don't have GPA data are actually super uncompetitive and im missing out on those...

so def no chi?
