Bid List -- Top 15% at Georgetown -- NYC & SF/SV

If anyone could critique or offer suggestions on my bid list, I'd really appreciate it. My priorities are: job in the Bay Area > job in New York >> job in home market >>> no job anywhere.

I've tried to take into account selectivity, difficulty of getting an interview at EIW, and summer class sizes. Difficulty of getting an interview doesn't necessarily correlate with selectivity because some firms have separate schedules for each office, and some firms interview for all offices together.

I have pre-EIW interview set up with some firms, so they aren't on my list. They are:

Skadden (SV)
Jones Day (SV)
Orrick (SF)
dla piper (SV)
K&L Gates (SF)
Davis Polk (SV)
Sheppard Mullin (SF)

Fenwick is the other obvious one missing; I've emailed them and gotten in touch with a contact there, because they're not coming to our EIW. The bid list goes to 50, but I think these are all the firms I realistically have a shot at getting an interview at. My focus is on corporate/transactional practice. Thanks.

Did you ask your OCS or the recruiting contacts at firms about interviewing at multiple offices of the same firm? I know Davis Polk asks people not to sign up for multiple office interviews at my school.

Ties to SF? IP background?

Your NY list looks good, but SF/SV may be hard to crack without those. Also, why Latham NY and not SF?

That's a good question. I didn't specifically address Davis Polk with them. They do say on Symplicity to only interview with one office even if you bid on multiple, but I guess I'm wondering if I might be able to pull it off because I got the SV office through mass mailing. Thanks for pointing that out. Do you think that they're not both at EIW matters?

Ties to SF are basically (1) my sister and other family members (cousins) out there and (2) my desire to do corporate work for tech companies, startups, and VC firms. No IP background.

I have both Latham SV and NY on there. They allow interviewing with multiple offices. In regards to SF/SV being hard to crack, I'm petrified of concentrating too much on V10 NYC firms and striking out there because of high selectivity and striking out in SF/SV because of lack of ties. Not totally sure how to balance this fear with wanting to end up at an excellent firm doing top-tier work in one place or the other.
