Is it seriously just all grey/charcoal/blue suits and white/light blue shirts and boring ties?
Or can you get away with dark blue, red, green, or purple shirts as long as it looks good?

the advice around here isn't rooted in some secret code that law students are supposed to guess at. It's based on the idea that you don't want your clothes to matter either way. Hiring partners are unlikely to be impressed by a sharp dresser (though they may be turned off by a poor one), so why risk coming off looking like an NBA lottery pick? Dress as conservatively as possible without coming across as a fuddy-duddy. Standing out in your dress, at the absolute most, helps you negligibly and can very likely hurt you if you rub someone the wrong way, so why risk it?

I saw some people dressed like this at my OCI and they all looked awful. They probably also thought they could pull it off because they'd make it "look good."

For the love of God. People thinking that dark blue, red, green, or purple shirts might look good is the reason we advise people to wear bland colors.

Unless you look like Harvey Spector or the guy from White Collar in a suit, wear a boring color and just focus on improving your interviewing skills instead.

Do it. You want the hiring partners to remember you. How else will you stand out from a bunch of students with nearly the same grades?
any attention you attract is better than no attention at all.

While I'm a fan of pocket squares, skinny ties, tie bars, collar bars, French cuffs, narrow lapels, bold striped shirts, and European shoes, Neal Caffrey never had to interview for biglawl.

Don't you think he would pull it off though? Even below median, he would be working at Cravath.

Even Harvey Specter generally wears white shirts, he just looks really fucking good doing it.

You will look like a used car salesman. Don't look like a used car salesman.

The thread title shows that you're missing the point. It's not about looking "boring," it's about looking professional. Looking good and looking professional are not mutually exclusive. If you have to resort to clown colors to avoid looking boring, you're doing it wrong.
