OCI References: 1L SA...who to ask?

Starting to think about OCI, and wondering who from my current position to list as a reference. I think I saw something in the handbook that said attorneys should refer employees seeking references to the HR director, so I assume that is who I will end up listing ,but I'm a bit torn on how to ask. If this firm gives me an offer to return, then they will likely not be thrilled with my wanting a reference, will they? How have people gone about asking?

You do not need references for 2L OCI.

not true for certain firms (e.g., covington)
OP, your 1L firm fully expects you to do OCI, even if they give you a full-time offer to return. it's not a big deal to ask for a reference.
