Ramifications of reneging on full-time offer after SA

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jul 15, 2012 11:58 am

I'm expecting to get a full-time offer from my 2L SA firm soon. Even though I like the firm, for personal reasons I'm looking for an alternative post-grad job at a different firm (different practice area, city, etc). If I don't find anything, I will definitely take the offer.

If I accept the offer, and then in December or January find a post-graduation job that that meets the criteria I'm really looking for, is there any major effect of reneging on my offer?

What difference does it make if there are ramifications? You are not going to take a job you don't want just because you think people will be mad at you. Associates are fungible - the firm will be able to find someone to replace you in a heartbeat. Take the job you want, it is your life and career. People change their minds all the time. No big deal.

No.

Just make sure you break the news to your 2L SA firm in the most gracious and courteous manner, and explain the reasons why you can't join them full-time post-graduation.
